Respect for Seniors worship resources

St Ives Uniting Church and UnitingCare Ageing have developed Respect for Seniors, a grassroots campaign that empowers individuals and communities to share the vision of a more respectful society.

Its goal is to create a safe, caring community where people can all age with dignity and respect.

The campaign tackles issues of ageism (a lack of respect for older people), which devalues and disempowers older people.

Organisers believe promoting age-friendly communities, in which abuse is not tolerated, should be a goal of Australian society.

The highlight event in the year-round community conversations program occurs in the week June 19 to 26, when congregations are encouraged to join the themes of seniors and respect in a Wear Purple Day worship service.
